My experience is that Atheists, Agnostics, Buddhists, Christians, beginners and more experienced practitioners are able to meditate and inquire together. No fundamentalism please. Wear comfortable clothing, and please do NOT wear scented perfumes or colognes as they can be distractions and sometimes even trigger allergies in others. We will sit quietly for about a ½ hour; inquire for about ½ hour and then sit for another ¼ of an hour. If you are a beginner, please come 10 minutes early, for some brief instructions. Chairs are available. Support is by donation, something like: $0 for people with no money; $5 for students and the unemployed; $10 for people with okay jobs and $15 and over, for people with great jobs. Watch for updates at www.agoodheart.ca.

There will be simple instructions and a 30 minute meditation practice followed by discussion and time for sharing insights and questions. Emphasis will be put on providing a comfortable place for the body to rest so that we can begin to pay attention to our moment to moment experience with spaciousness and ease.
Jacqueline has been practising Insight Meditation (Vipassana) for over 30 years. This practice comes from the Buddhist tradition that emphasizes cultivating kind attention and compassion as a path to the freedom of suffering.
This class is offered freely. In keeping with the Buddhist tradition, anything placed in our donation bowl would be greatly appreciated! To find out how to make a donation, please go to this page.

There will be a strong emphasis on cultivating an open, balanced heart through practices such as loving-kindness, equanimity, compassion, joy and generosity. We will also cover a broad array of Buddhist philosophy and practices – in a simple, non-doctrinaire way. Highly recommended for mindfulness practitioners, Buddhists and any meditator who want to take their practice to a deeper level. You definitely don’t have to be a Buddhist to participate but it is recommended that you have a regular practice. Please contact us if you have any questions!

Here are few important things about mindfulness -
-
It occurs naturally, to varying degrees. We use it everyday to cross the street.
-
It can be strengthened by doing simple tasks like gardening or yoga, in a quiet and single-pointed way.
-
It is most directly cultivated through formal meditation practice.
-
It is most robust when practised with self-compassion, non-harming, generosity and shared inquiry.
-
Our approach to mindfulness, meditation and other mind-training practices is simple, practical and geared for everyday life.

During this time, we will identify a particular area where you are having difficulty, or want to become stronger, and then create a customized bundle of meditations and mind-training tools to help you accomplish this. The work can be done in person or digitally through Zoom.
Each weekly session will run for about 65-70 minutes, and involves:
– A quick “check-in”.
– A 20-30 minute meditation session.
A conversation about your meditation session, experiences from the last week and anything else that comes up. We will tease out insights about what is arising in your body, heart and mind, and then figure out how to work with it.
learning a new meditation technique, usually each week.
and finally a quick “wrap-up”.
Ken Hood is known by many in the Guelph community as the friendly Buddhist bookseller at the Bookshelf. Ken has been facilitating meditation groups in Guelph since the late 1980s, more prominently at Living Yoga & Health on Sunday mornings. His meditation practice is rooted in the Mahayana Tibetan Buddhist tradition, however Ken’s teaching is ecumenical with strong influences from Western Theravada Buddhism, Jungian psychology, and Roman Stoicism. Ken’s classes are warm and insightful; offering anecdotes and teachings that reflect how meditation can transform our minds and hearts so that we can live with more compassion and less suffering. Together with his wife, Jacqueline Gilbey, he is co-director of Arrive Yoga & Mindfulness. For more information, please see Ken’s website www.agoodheart.ca
Donations (Dana)
Following the 2,500-year-old Buddhist tradition, the teachings are considered priceless and so are offered freely. We practice dana, or generosity, by offering a donation for the teachings. Dana is not a payment for goods or services, but comes from the heart. You are invited to offer dana (voluntary donation) to the teachers, if you wish.
To make a donation online, please go to PASSES & MEMBERSHIPS & DONATIONS and select the amount you would like to donate under DONATIONS. If making a donation at this time is difficult due to financial constraints, please choose the Free Class option under New to Arrive on the Passes & Memberships & Donations page.
You are also welcome to send a donation via PayPal.Me/ARRIVEONLINE or by e-transfer to info@arriveyoga.ca.
